from behind the scenes of Garden Consultant HQ. We unexpectedly lost one of our kitties yesterday. Boats was only 8 years old and had been acting fine as of Monday. Eric found him in the basement and he looked like he was sleeping. So, we don't really know what killed him but we're spectulating it may have been heart failure. Apparently after doing some research today, Maine Coon cats are susceptible to some pretty serious heart problems. So, we sadly and with a broken heart bid farewell to Mr. Boats and wish him fair winds and following seas.
Good Bye Boats....you were a great kitty.

Hi, I found your post through a Google standing search on Maine Coons. Goodbye to Boats, indeed. He was such a pretty kitty! Maine Coons suffer from cardio myopathy...we lost our purebred in January at the ripe old age of 19!! Theo (as in T. Monk) was his name. He'd survived the initial clot (from the thickening heart muscle) and from there we kept his blood thin enough and his heart "thin" enough to where he didn't have another. We (he) were lucky.
He died of kidney disease six years after the clot.
Thanks for your post. Here's to good memories of Boats!
